Adding and removing icons from your Dock couldn’t be easier in Mac OS X. To add an icon to your dock, all you have to do is find the program you want to add and drag it down to the dock itself. Once you let go, you will find a new icon in the place you dragged it to. Your program didn’t move, it just created an alias (shortcut) in the dock to allow you to quick launch the program.

So now that the program is there, what if you change your mind? To remove it from the dock, all you have to do is grab the icon and drag it from the dock and onto the desktop. When you let go of it, it will disappear and will no longer appear in your dock. The only two icons that cannot be removed are the finder and trash icons. That’s all there is to it…very, very simple.
