The UC Davis Bookstore TechHub recently held a photo contest using our Facebook page. The theme of the contest; “How Do You See Davis?” We asked people to show the rest of the world Davis through their eyes, using the wonder of digital photography. These photos were then voted on by fans of the TechHub Facebook page, which will then be voted on in person by those who visit the TechHub during Picnic Day (4/16/2011). Lyia being the nerd that she is (taken with her Canon PowerShot 1200 IS)

I’m not going to lie, I like to take pictures whether I’m in the picture or the one taking the picture. I love the camera, not because I’m going to be taking a ridiculous amount of pictures of myself, but because I can capture the moments in life that I’ll forget. It could be my little brother’s birthday, or the last shot of my grandma, or the Euro-trip my friends and I took. Whatever the occasion, you can bet that I will have my camera on me…you never know what you are going to miss! However, it does matter what kind of camera takes those pictures. There’s the fancy $1,000 camera that takes amazing pictures then there’s the humble $200 camera that gets the job done with amazing pictures to boot, and that camera is the Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS. I have used plenty of cameras and have had plenty of recommendations but I never really bothered to buy a new one, until now.

Getting that video to your computer

Getting that video to your computer

The holidays came and went and Santa was very nice to you. He came down the chimney, ate your cookies, drank your milk and left behind a brand new 5th generation iPod Nano. As you head out to meet the family for breakfast, you figure it might be nice to capture those moments on your new toy. A week later, you open your email to find one from Aunt Suzie asking for a copy of the footage you took, only to realize you don’t know how to get all that video off your Nano. And of course, there are no instructions included on how to do so. That’s where we, the TechHub, come in.

That’s right folks, at today’s “It’s Only Rock And Roll, But We Like It” music event, Apple unveiled a few things it had up its sleeve. The Internet was ablaze with rumors of what these new toys would be. Quite a few of these rumors turned out to be true, and some turned out to be not so true (Mac Tablet, I am looking at you). Anyway, let’s take a look at what went down at the event.

Where do I start with the Panasonic SDR-S7 camcorder? I know that phrase probably isn’t the best way to start a review, but in this case it really isn’t a bad thing. If you are looking for a professional, full service camcorder, by all means look elsewhere. If you are looking for an easy to use, hard to screw up, easy to take on the go camcorder…this might be the one for you.
