Tech Support?

Time to exit, stage left…

I have had an incredible time writing these blogs over the last couple of years. While I have never actually managed to get a good schedule down for writing them on a consistent basis, I always enjoyed getting some time set aside to do so. So it is with a heavy heart that I inform the regular readers of the TechTalk blog that as of now, there will be no longer be any updates to it for the foreseeable future. We will leave the page up though, for anyone who still has lingering questions about any of the “How-To” articles we have written, or just want to watch one of our videos again. So thank you all very much for just reading my (and my colleagues’) articles, it has been a pleasure.

Why is my iOS in my OS X?

Why is my iOS in my OS X?

One of the biggest changes in the Mac operating system, in regards to the update to Lion, is the new feature Launchpad. With OS X 10.7 Lion, Apple fuses both their robust and incredibly reliable OS X with their insanely popular and easy to use iOS. With Launchpad, you get the instant launch functionality of iOS in the OS X environment, and you are able to navigate it just like you would on your iPhone. It is also customizable, just like on your iPhone, but now you don’t have to do it in your iTunes account (pre-iOS 5). We will show you some tips right after the break.

Yeah, this is from Windows, but you get the idea...

Lately, many folks on the Internet have been speculating that Apple is heading toward a diskless world. With the recent release of the new Mac Mini (which lacks an optical drive) and the fact that OS X 10.7 is available ONLY on the Mac App Store, it is not hard to see why people are thinking this, and you can count me as one of those folks as well. But the real question is, “Is this a good thing”?

You may or may not know that the TechHub has a computer repair center. The reason I bring this up is because I have been noticing a trend of Apple machines being brought to us for help and the icon to the disk drive is nowhere to be found on the desktop. Some folks seemed to have it like that on purpose, but a majority of them seemed baffled at how to bring back that icon. This seems like a growing trend to me, so I figured it was time for a quick “how-to” on the subject. To see “How-To” bring back the disk drive icon in Mac OS X, just read on after the break.
