The year 2000 was a special year. I had just started college, got my first job, got my first car, oh, and I also obliterated the lord of Hell that year too. For the second time in fact. Diablo 2 consumed my life for a good year. Whether playing over my buddy’s LAN with him, or with a bunch of strangers over battle.net, the Lord of Lies, Diablo, never stood a chance against my mighty Barbarian, or my fierce Amazon. I am a huge sucker for traditional RPGs, but Diablo came along and blew the doors of any preconceived notion of what an RPG should be, and paved the way for many after (like World of Warcraft, Torchlight, Kingdoms of Amalur, Dungeon Siege, etc.) Now, after twelve long years, the wait is finally almost over. Diablo 3 will be released on 5/15/2012 to the masses. (If you have not pre-ordered your copy, you can certainly do so through the UC Davis TechHub.) In celebration of that, check out the opening cinematic right after the break. For once the gates open, it will take us all to beat the denizens back into their realm. See you online…

Being able to communicate effectively with your team can mean the difference between life and death. This is true in life…and this is especially true in the online arena. Being able to tell someone to get out of the fire or telling the tank that you pulled aggro on the boss (which can happen occasionally as a hunter) can mean a success instead of a wipe. (In case you can’t tell, the game I am talking about is World of Warcraft.) In the old days, I would have had to type everything in “raid chat”, hoping that the person it was directed to would see it, and on top of that, it would take precious seconds to even type my message/warning in the first place. Well, I now live a world that includes Ventrilo and the Logitech G330 Gaming Headset. Check out my take on this headset after the break.

In this episode, we take a look at some computer games. We know, you have to study, but why not spend those evenings having fun instead? (Everyone needs a break sometimes.) Andrew also answers another very common question we receive at the TechHub. As a college student, what features should you be looking for when purchasing a computer?

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Review

Before I go into my review of World of Warcraft: WotLK, I must confess that I am not the most “hardcore” of WoW players. I’ve put in what seems to me, an ungodly amount of time into WoW, but I still barely know the difference between a Fury warrior and an Arms warrior, I haven’t touched the new Death Knight hero class, and I roll Alliance. I play a Night Elf Hunter whom I have leveled to 80. As of this writing, I am still working on getting him some more epic gear before tackling the Naxxramas raid. So while I am no expert, this does not deter me from giving my 2 cents about this expansion pack.
